I was born in Atlantic city, New Jersey - the home of the salt water taffy - where my father was stationed during the war. My first memory of creative fantasy was when he came home with a cardboard purple heart. A massive hurricane was causing the ocean to meet up with the bay - I remember it was up to my 2-year-old waist - and apparently the wine cellars in the large hotel he was managing for resting officers returning from the European Front was being dangerously flooded. So he earned the paper purple heart for successfully organizing the rescue operation of thousands of bottles of wine.
My mother and my grandmother were painters. My grandmother, Ethel, loved to
paint flowers in vases and my mom, Frances painted people, still lifes and
was an excellent photographer. I was always encouraged to draw and paint but
as a teenager I felt it was more important to defy my parents. Instead I let
my competitive side take over and concentrated on another fantasy - sports.
When I realized there was an artist inside myself, we had a chat and decided
I should get some training. Bucks nurtured me, Tyler credentialed me and Beaver
taught me HIS-story. That was followed by HER-story studies - Woman Wisdom
I and Woman Wisdom II - which shook me up, expanded by inner visual world
and ultimately placed me on the path of doing Day Circles.
In my day job I was surrounded by 25-30 fantastic, colorful and utterly instinctual
artworks per working hour - my new persona; elementary art teacher. Fifteen
years and several group shows later, my husband, Bob, a psychologist, and
I decided the time was right for my retirement to the studio full time.
We live in an old 1830’s frame house in Bucks County without our son,
Rob, who lives and works in film in LA. Our pet is a friendly little omega
male scottie named Alex who has a vivid dream life.
